About the programme area - Renewable Energy
Increasing the share of renewables in our energy mix is an effective way of making our energy supply more environmentally friendly and our energy sources more diverse. The programmes in this field aim to contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy in energy use and to meeting ambitious EU targets on climate and energy.

About the programmes
As a donor programme partner, the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate is engaged in all phases of the programmes. Under the open calls in the three programmes, it is desirable that beneficiary state institutions and companies apply for project funding together with donor state partners. NVE will assist the Programme Operators in identifying potential project partners from the donor states.
Bulgaria: The programme combines the two programme areas of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
In the Bulgarian programme there are open calls and partnership possibilities under the following areas:
- Construction of small hydro-power plants on existing water supply and irrigation systems.
- Promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures in municipal and state buildings and local district heating.
- Production of fuels on biomass - production of pellets, wood chips, eco briquettes, biogas from farms, etc.
- Increasing the administrative capacity on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Romania: In the Romanian programme there will open calls and partnership possibilities regarding projects on small scale hydro power plants.
About the programme area - Adaption to Climate Change
There are two main policy responses to climate change: mitigation and adaptation. Mitigation addresses the root causes by reducing emissions, while adaptation seeks to lower the risks posed by the consequences of climatic changes. Both approaches are necessary. Even if emissions are dramatically decreased, adaptation will still be needed to deal with the changes already set in motion. The EEA Grants support programmes in seven countries in this field.

Slovakia: In the Slovak programme there are open calls and partnership possibilities under the following areas:
- Rainwater harvesting and anti-erosion structures.
- Water retention and water recycling mechanisms.
- Rainwater retention and harvesting systems.
- "Blue Schools" - Educational projects related to water management
